Description
Different hobbies call for different cameras. In the world of nature spotting, you need an easy-to-carry camera that provides super-telephoto performance.
The Nikon P950 is an ultra-high-power zoom, 16.05-megapixel camera that lets you capture a world that can’t be seen with the naked eye. The 24mm – 2000mm equivalent focal length and Dual Detect Optical Vibration Reduction (VR) feature make for incredibly sharp photos that are easy on even the most discerning eye. Whether you are trying to photograph a rare species or capture the man on the moon’s best light, the camera’s versatile image expression will satisfy your creative ambitions.
Regardless of subject matter, the P950 packs eye-opening zoom performance in a diminutive package.
CAPTURE DECISIVE MOMENTS
A photographer’s eyes are vital for seeking out inspiration, but the right camera can take us above and beyond what the naked eye is capable of. From soaring aircrafts to astronomical wonders, the 83x optical zoom and 166x Dynamic Fine Zoom1 2 of the Nikon P950 lets you capture subjects that the typical portable camera simply cannot, effectively doubling its reach to a 4000mm equivalent.
For smaller subjects that require a closer look, Macro AF means you can focus on subjects as close as approx. 1 cm/0.4 in.
Versatility and reaction time can be the difference between a stunning photo and a spurned opportunity, and this camera’s fast response with increased autofocus speed at the telephoto side enables you to be quick on the draw when shooting decisive moments.
Increased buffer memory allows users to take the best shot easily with continuous shooting up to 10 frames3 4 with 7 fps enabled up to two times in a row. This camera thrives long after the sun has set thanks to its EXPEED image-processing engine and high-sensitivity back-illuminated CMOS sensor which allows ISO up to 6400, ensuring high quality image in even the darkest scenarios.

CRYSTAL CLEAR PRECISION
Clarity should never stand in the way of inspiration. This compact camera makes fine use of the Dual Detect Optical VR, which provides compensation effect to a shutter speed of approximately 5.5 stops5 faster, allowing capture of sharp images and videos with optimal exposure regardless of shooting situations. On top of that, the camera provides NORMAL and ACTIVE framing modes, which suppresses shifts in composition between the intended framing and resulting viewfinder image – a particularly effective feature when shooting super-telephoto.

AMPLIFY YOUR CREATIVITY
A great camera should let you harness your creativity, not impede it. Equipped with both Moon and Bird Watching modes, the P950 lets you photograph those subjects without fiddling for complicated settings. Bulb and Time shooting options let you ramp up the creative possibilities of long exposure photography, with shooting performance that lives up to your lofty standards.
The cherry on top? The P950 also supports RAW image output, meaning that data from the image sensor and setting information can be recorded to maintain the highest image quality, which expands the image enhancement and post-processing possibilities.
SHARE YOUR VISION
Let the world see your life in high definition. Clean HDMI output is a hugely beneficial feature for videographers who like to use an external monitor during shooting. The camera’s ability to shoot 4K UHD (2160/30p) is unmistakable when posting on social media channels, letting none of your inspiration or image quality get lost in the process.
While it excels shooting stills, this camera’s wealth of speed options during movie recording is a standout feature. The ability to select from high-speed, medium-speed and to low-speed of approximately 30s makes for wonderfully smooth videos to achieve your desired outcome.
If time-lapses are your thing, the camera lets you reflect dynamic landscape changes over approximately 10 seconds at 30fps or 25fps which can be automatically produced from still images captured in interval timer shooting. For those who like greater control of exposure settings in videos, the movie manual allows users to express their images in line with what their creative vision requires.
INTUITION MEETS OPERATION
What is a camera without its bells and whistles? The P950’s accessory shoe lets you incorporate speedlights and external microphones amongst other accessories, all of which expands your creative horizons.
The ultra-high definition, 0.39-inch electronic viewfinder equipped with an eye sensor enables you to shoot with precise composition, crisply and clearly. Operability is a strong point of the P950, with useful functions like the Snap-back zoom, Side zoom control and Side dial, allows for super-telephoto zoom for wild birds, hang gliders and balloons, to close distance wide-angle shooting for butterflies and flowers. These intuitive control keeps stunning optical performance at your fingertips. Creative freedom and the ability to pursue unique compositions is expanded by the inclusion of a 3.2-inch vari-angle TFT LCD monitor equipped with an anti-reflection coating to ensure clear visibility even under direct sunlight.
For those moments when you need to step away from your camera, Snapbridge allows your smartphone to function as a Bluetooth-enabled remote controller, letting you to take stills and movies, as well as zoom and adjust manual focus settings, even from a distance. You can also send photos from the camera straight to your smartphone, then edit and share like instantly on social media.
With everything weighing in at approximately 1005g, the impressive P950 won’t be a burden on any photography mission.
1 Magnification of Dynamic Fine Zoom is a total magnification that combines optical zoom and electronic zoom from the wide-angle end.
2 At the maximum image size. The maximum zoom ratio varies by image size.
3 Because the memory capacity has been increased, you can shoot continuously two times in a row.
4 After two periods of continuous shooting, the next continuous shooting can be started faster than with the P900 even though the number of frames is decreased.

FEATURES
EXPERIENCE THE WORLD WITH THE OVERWHELMING POWER OF A 2,000-MM*1 OPTICAL ZOOM LENS
The 83x optical zoom of the COOLPIX P950 covers an incredible focal-length range, from wide-angle 24 mm*1 to super-telephoto 2,000 mm*1. With this powerful zoom, it lets you capture subjects that are usually beyond the reach of a point-and-shoot camera, from wild animals and birds to distant landscapes, aircraft and even planets. You can even go all the way up to a 4,000-mm*1 focal length using 166x Dynamic Fine Zoom*2, without sacrificing any resolution. Meanwhile, macro shooting lets you get as close as approx. 1 cm/0.4 in.*3 to your subject. And at every range, the camera delivers sharp, clear and beautiful images that will satisfy advanced users — all in a compact, highly portable body.
*1 35mm format equivalent. *2 At the maximum image size. The maximum zoom ratio varies by image size. Dynamic Fine Zoom magnification is calculated from the maximum wide-angle position of the optical zoom. *3 Distance from the center of the front surface of the lens.
SUPER-TELEPHOTO ZOOM COMBINED WITH SUPERB PORTABILITY
The COOLPIX P950 squeezes the incredible power of a 2,000-mm equivalent zoom lens into a compact body weighing just approx. 1,005 g (2 lb 3.5 oz). No D-SLR or mirrorless camera can match this combination of portability and super-telephoto performance, which gives photographers the freedom to take their creativity to exciting new places.
DUAL DETECT OPTICAL VR PROVIDES EFFECTIVE, RELIABLE SUPPORT IN SUPER-TELEPHOTO SHOOTING
Image blur can be a major headache for photographers, especially in super-telephoto shooting. Thanks to its Dual Detect Optical VR (Vibration Reduction) offering an effect equivalent to shooting at a shutter speed 5.5 stops faster*1 in NORMAL mode, the maximum in the history of Nikon digital compact cameras*2, the COOLPIX P950 effectively reduces image blur caused by camera shake, enabling the capture of sharp images of distant subjects even with handheld shooting. Also, because shooting using a slower shutter speed is enabled without fear of camera shake, the range of image expression is expanded.
*1 Based on CIPA Standards, measured at approx. 350 mm (35mm format equivalent). *2 As of January, 2020.
SUPERIOR OPTICAL PERFORMANCE FOR HIGH IMAGE QUALITY
The advanced optical system employs a Super ED glass element used in interchangeable lenses for SLRs, which provides higher image-forming capability and effectively reduces chromatic aberration, dynamically achieving superior image quality with super-telephoto shooting. The back-illuminated CMOS image sensor with 16.0 effective megapixels and ISO sensitivity range up to ISO 6400 supported by the EXPEED image-processing engine enable the capture of sharp and clear images even in dark situations.
FASTER AF SPEED AND INCREASED BUFFER CAPACITY MEAN YOU WON’T MISS A DECISIVE MOMENT
Increased buffer memory allows users to take the best shot easily and realizes superior repeated continuous shooting. You can shoot up to approx. 10 frames at approx. 7 fps in Continuous H mode. Combined with faster AF performance at the telephoto end, this makes it easier than ever to nail decisive moments and once-in-a-lifetime opportunities when shooting subjects such as wild birds or sporting action.
VERSATILE IMAGE EXPRESSIONS
The COOLPIX P950 can record high-quality 4K UHD/30p movies across its entire zoom range, from 24-mm to 2000-mm equivalent focal length. Shooting in Movie manual mode provides images with background bokeh and differences in brightness, allowing you to create movies according to your intentions, just the way you want them to look. AE can also be locked, even when the ambient brightness changes significantly during movie recording. In addition, you can choose the zoom speed during recording from three options, high-speed, mid-speed and low-speed, with the side zoom control.
RAW (NRW) file format images are now supported. Still images saved as RAW (NRW) data from image sensor and setting information at the time of shooting are recorded in the same file, which allows image creation using white balance, exposure and COOLPIX Picture Control settings after shooting, without worrying about degrading the original.
3. “TIME LAPSE MOVIE” AND “BULB/TIME SETTING”
Time-lapse movies can be automatically produced from still images captured in interval timer shooting. Dynamic landscape changes over time are reflected in a short-duration movie. By just selecting a scene mode from five options, the most appropriate interval is automatically set. Bulb and Time settings are added to shutter speed options to deliver the desired shooting performance. These options can be used to capture images with a long time-exposure, such as when taking pictures of fireworks, night landscapes, the night sky, or car light trails. The maximum exposure time for both the Bulb and Time settings is 60 seconds, and these settings enable ISO sensitivity to be set up to 1600.
IMPROVED OPERABILITY FOR A WIDER VARIETY OF SHOOTING
The camera is equipped with a 0.39-in., approx. 2359k-dot electronic viewfinder with 0.68x magnification, which has an eye sensor that automatically switches from monitor to viewfinder shooting when you bring it close to your eye or face. The Focus-mode selector enables focus mode switching easily between MF and AF while the camera is held. In addition to the Snap-back zoom and Side zoom controls, the Side dial is conveniently located to make it easier to control shooting. When set to MF, the dial is used to focus manually, and when set to AF, it changes an assigned setting such as exposure compensation, white balance or ISO sensitivity. The 8.1-cm/3.2-in. TFT LCD monitor affords comfortable and clear viewing even outdoors, and its vari-angle capability allows adjustment for any shooting angle to frame the image perfectly. An accessory terminal and accessory shoe let you expand the camera’s functionality further, including with the DF-M1 Dot Sight (optional), which helps you keep track of small, distant subjects such as birds and aircraft during super-telephoto shooting and recapture them if they are lost. Besides the DF-M1 Dot Sight, various optional accessories can be used to extend the capabilities of the COOLPIX P950.
BRING ALL THE EXCITEMENT MUCH CLOSER WITH DEDICATED BIRD-WATCHING/MOON MODES
Bird-watching mode and Moon mode are independent of Scene Modes, and are located on the Mode Dial. When taking shots of wild birds or the moon, selecting these modes helps you get great results without any complicated setting changes. This facilitates the shooting of scenes that cannot be easily seen with the naked eye.
