HIGH RESOLUTION EXCEEDING THAT OF CONVENTIONAL LENSES IS REALIZED

Sharp resolution is attained at all shooting distances. Specifically, resolution at the range from medium distance to infinity is equivalent or superior to that of conventional lenses of a higher class. Also, via the adoption of a multi-focusing system, superb imaging performance is delivered throughout the shooting range including close distances by effectively reducing aberrations. High-resolution images can be captured across the entire frame from the center to the periphery, a capability that is vital for landscape photography. The optical system employing one ED glass and four aspherical lens elements provides outstanding optical performance. In addition, Nikon’s original coating technology, Nano Crystal Coat effectively reduces ghost and flare caused by incident light, resulting in clear images even when a light source is located within the frame.

Despite being a wide-angle lens, a fast f/1.8 maximum aperture creates background blur, expanding the range of image expression such as when shooting wide-angle portraits. Also, higher shutter speeds can be used even for indoor and dark scenes to minimize image blur caused by subject movement.

By effectively compensating sagittal coma flare from the maximum aperture, small light sources even at the periphery are faithfully reproduced as point images. The wide angle of view provided by 24 mm focal length enables the capture of night landscapes containing distant illuminations and stars. In astrophotography, utilizing a bright f/1.8 maximum aperture, higher shutter speed and lower ISO sensitivity can be used to reproduce stars as point images while suppressing noise.

・ Minimal axial chromatic aberration: Via the employment of an ED glass element, axial chromatic aberration is effectively compensated across the shooting range from close distances to infinity, which contributes to delivering sharp reproduction without color fringing at the focal plane. ・ Effective distortion correction: Despite being a wide-angle 24 mm lens, images with minimal distortion even at the periphery can be captured when shooting architecture or a starry sky. ・ Focus-breathing reduction: Reduces shifting of the angle of view when adjusting focus, allowing photographers to record movies with the desired composition. Focus stacking using focus shift shooting for landscape shots is also made easy.

 

EASY-TO-OPERATE CONTROL RING TO WHICH VARIOUS FUNCTIONS CAN BE ASSIGNED

A control ring to which M/A*, aperture or exposure compensation can be assigned using the camera is incorporated. Assigning functions to the control ring provides new, smooth operability without using the main command dial or sub-command dial. *With this manual-priority autofocus mode, AF is instantly overridden with MF by rotating the control ring.

 

SUPERB MOVIE RECORDING PERFORMANCE WITH CONSIDERATION GIVEN TO OPERABILITY

OTHER FEATURES AND FUNCTIONS

Dust- and drip-resistant capability* is achieved with sealing for various sections including movable parts of the lens barrel to prevent dust or water droplets from entering the body. *Perfect dust- and water-proof performance is not guaranteed.

 

Thanks to a diaphragm blade unit with driving mechanism employed on the lens body, the camera can accurately control aperture via electronic signals. This delivers stable aperture control (AE) constantly, even during continuous shooting.
