FEATURES
5-axis IS
Top-class, In-body 5-axis Image Stabilisation
The world’s best stabilisation performance
The 5-axis VCM image stabilisation, which powerfully compensates any type of shaking, has improved, achieving the world’s highest compensation performance of 5 steps[1]. It also provides powerful compensation for camera roll which cannot be corrected with an in-lens IS, and horizontal/vertical shift which tends to occur during macro shooting. With this feature, you can enjoy hand-held shooting in dark locations and during telephoto photography without worrying about camera shake. It also prevents image shake in the viewfinder for stable framing. Additionally, the world’s most powerful camera shake compensation performance equivalent to 6 shutter speed steps[2] is provided by 5-axis Sync IS when the OM-D E-M5 Mark II is combined with the M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO, which is the first Olympus interchangeable lens to be equipped with in-lens image stabilisation.
- 1 : As of February 5, 2015 on interchangeable lens cameras. Based on CIPA standards, when used with M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 EZ, at focal length of 50mm (35mm equivalent focal length: 100mm), in pitch/yaw direction.
- 2 : Based on CIPA standards , when used with M.Zuiko Digital ED 300mm F4.0 IS PRO.
Roll compensation not possible with in-lens IS
Z : Roll
This model powerfully compensates camera shake in rolling that cannot be compensated by in-lens IS. With this feature, you can enjoy hand-held shooting during long exposures even in dark locations.
Shifting compensation supports hand-held macro shooting
X : Horizontal shift, Y : Vertical shift
Shift blur often occurs when shooting macro photography. With a revised algorithm, the E-M5 Mark II’s 5-axis VCM image stabilisation system is now compatible with shift blurring not only when shooting still images but also for movies. This provides powerful support for hand-held macro shooting.
Optical stabilisation and digital stabilisation combine to realise movie IS
Not only is 5-axis image stabilisation useful for still images, but it also shows its ability when recording movies. The VCM magnetically levitates the image sensor constantly for smooth hand-held movie recording similar to dedicated cinematic image stabilisation equipment used in feature-length films. The M-IS1 image stabilisation mode for movie recording combines both the 5-axis optical image stabilisation and digital image stabilisation for more powerful effects, and M-IS2 uses 5-axis image stabilisation only.
Half-pressing the shutter release prevents image shake in the viewfinder for stable framing
This model is equipped with a halfway release image stabilisation so you can view image stabilisation effects in the viewfinder while pressing the shutter button halfway. This makes more accurate framing and focusing possible through a stable viewfinder image during macro and telephoto shooting.

Initial connection is easy with a simple scan of the QR code that is displayed on the camera monitor. In addition to transferring images on the camera and controlling the camera, geotags obtained with a smartphone can be added to images, and Art Filters can be applied to recorded images. The E-M5 Mark II becomes compatibile with Live Composite via Olympus Image Share (OI.Share) ver. 2.6 with the upgrade to firmware ver. 2.0.
PC applications to support your photography
Olympus Capture tethered shooting software
Tethered shooting is a feature included in response to many requests from professional studio photographers. Simply connect the E-M1 to your computer with a USB cable and you can shoot, change camera settings, and quickly transfer images between the camera and computer. You can control the camera either directly from the camera or from the computer at all times, without having to make any control setting changes. (Because there is no mirror to be locked up on compact system cameras, the focus can be adjusted using the camera viewfinder, and shooting using the camera itself is possible while displaying Live View on a computer) This feature provides a stress-free environment for focusing on shooting, enhancing collaboration with your photography clients.
(Feature added in firmware Ver. 2.0)
The E-M5 Mark II becomes compatible with Olympus Capture ver. 1.1, which now features Live Composite, Live Bulb/Time, Keystone Compensation, among other useful functions.
- The dedicated software Olympus Capture is required to use the Camera Control function.
Olympus Viewer 3 for smart management of digital workflow
When processing RAW files with Olympus Viewer 3, you can apply a variety of in-camera settings such as Colour Creator, and Highlight & Shadow Control. Alternatively, you can use the Olympus Image Share smartphone app to map images with appended geotags and display the log on a map.
Quick Sleep mode enables up to 750 shots
Live View Super Control Panel
Super Control Panel
Quick Sleep mode is included on the E-M5 Mark II, which puts the camera into sleep mode whenever the Super Control Panel is displayed and the camera is not operated for more than 3 seconds, allowing up to approximately 750 shots* to be captured. Quick Sleep mode is deactivated when the shutter button is pressed halfway. You can switch between Super Control Panel and Live View Super Control Panel using the LV button.
- When Quick Sleep mode is activated, according to Olympus research.
Improved, easy to use GUI
Live View Super Control Panel
The rear monitor default display has been changed to the Super Control Panel. This makes it possible to intuitively change all settings. Also, switching to the traditional Live Control is possible by setting from the custom menu.
Menu cursor memory
You can store the position of the menu cursor from the previous session so that it is kept in the same place.
One-push preview lock
You can now check the depth of field with the press of a single button. The camera will stay in that view even when the button is released.
